Health Care Information on the Internet |
| Attendees will learn how to evaluate online health resources for their authority, objectivity, and timeliness. Various consumer health web sites and portals will be presented, including physician directories, tutorials, and newsgroups. Future sessions of this workshop will be held on different days of the week and at various times during the day. | |

Online Database Workshop |
| Did you know that in our databases you will find... Thousands of magazine articles available in full text? Articles going back to 1980 from The Boston Globe and The Herald that can be accessed with no fee? Practice exams such as civil service, SAT, GRE and many others? A children's encyclopedia and other resources to help your child with homework? Company information and sales leads? Biographical information on just about anyone? Online language courses? Book reviews and information to help figure out what to read next? This free workshop presents an overview of the online databases available. Participants will learn how to access the databases and determine which database is best for their needs. Basic searching techniques are covered. Workshop participants must be able to use a mouse. |

Learn to use the Library Catalog in Just One Hour |
This one-on-one workshop will teach users how to search for books, videos, CDs and other library materials that are available in Burlington and the other libraries in our consortium. Attendees will also learn how to access library accounts, place holds, and renew items. Workshop participants must be able to use a mouse. Navigating the Net 1 |
| The Internet offers a wealth of free and useful information and this class will get you started in learning how to access it. Participants will learn what the Internet is, about web pages and browsers, how to “surf,” how to look at web pages critically, and where to go for reliable information. Participants will be introduced to search engines and will gain practice in searching Google. Workshop participants MUST be able to use a mouse. This is a beginners workshop and is geared for those with little or no Internet experience. | |

Navigating the Net 2 |
| Burlington Public Library is offering a continuation of our popular introductory Navigating the Net 1 workshop. Navigating the Net 2 builds on the knowledge gained in Navigating the Net 1.Make the Internet work for you to make life easier. Look up a phone number, get directions, read the newspaper. Look up movies. Look up your favorite television program. See how your favorite teams are doing. Learn more about finding information with Google and about other search engines. Participants should have taken Navigating the Net 1 or should know the basics of moving around the Internet, and MUST be able to use a mouse. | |
