Welcome!
The Youth Services Department at the
Burlington Public Library provides materials and programs for children
from infancy through high school, their parents and caregivers, educators,
students of children's literature and other interested individuals. We
believe that a child who is exposed to libraries and books will excel in
reading and comprehension. Some of the services we offer are: storytimes
for various ages; special programs for various ages; and Summer Reading
Programs for children and teens.
Educators
There are many resources to assist
learners and educators at the Burlington Public Library. Our staff is
delighted to help parents and teachers find materials to assist students.
Teachers from public and private schools may call us at 781-270-1692 or use
our online assignment alert form to submit topics for homework assignments
and projects. We are also happy to pull books for preschool teachers. Additionally, we sponsor a home school support
group for parents led by one of our staff members who is a home school
mother. Other educator services include:
-
Materials to be used in Burlington
classrooms may be borrowed with a teacher card for 6 weeks.
-
Librarians will give tours of the library
tailored to specific age groups.
-
Visits to schools can include
presentations and storytimes.

What is Storytime?
Storytime is a
free service of the Burlington Public Library. It is an opportunity
to introduce your child to reading and language in a fun way.
Storytimes may include song and rhyme activities, storytelling, and
puppets, as well as books.
Which
Storytime is right for my child?
Babytime is an
opportunity for parents to introduce babies up to 18 months to
simple stories and songs. Babytime is 20 minutes long.
Toddler Time is for
children 18-36 months old. Caregivers and children interact with
stories and songs selected with toddlers in mind! Toddler Time is
about 25 minutes long.
Threes and Fours is a
transitional storytime for children who are ready to sit and listen
to longer stories. This storytime is about 30 minutes long.
Pajama Time is designed
for families. Stories and activities are most appropriate for
children ages 3-7. When this storytime is held during the day, it
is called Family Time. |

New England Collection
We have created this special collection to
promote the numerous children's books that for many years have
characterized our unique region of the country. If you want to know more
about the area where we live this is a good place to look. We will
continue to add books, which touch on the stories, natural history,
culture, past, and current life of New England. Periodically, useful
links to New England authors will be added to this site.

TV-Free
Kids
We know it's a challenge to find alternatives to TV watching for children. We encourage parents and guardians to read to
their children. Every year we promote "Turn off the TV Month" by
providing bookmarks children can stick on our old TV for each book they
read during the month of April.

Programs are more than just 'fun' things for kids to do in the summer --
they're vital to their educational and literacy development." -The
